My daughter and I love The Little House Books. When I found out there was a Unit Study that went along with these books, I was so excited. The Prairie Primer from Cadron Creek is for grades 3 through 6. You need to make sure you have all of the stuff needed, like the books, before you order this study. There are also several things you can order to supplement with this: Little House Paper Dolls, The Cookbook, and Timeline, that I do highly recommend you get as well.

If you want to save money, order The Prairie Primer Pack which includes: The Prairie Primer, Historical Timetable, Laura Ingalls Wilder Country and The Little House Cookbook. My daughter really enjoyed learning to cook, especially the Ginger Water Laura makes for her Pa, Charles.

This Study can be adapted to use for young students and older students as well. There is a great CD you can order as well, the Happy Land: Musical Tributes to Laura Ingalls Wilder. It has songs that Laura's Pa, Charles Ingalls played on his fiddle and about life during those times.

The price for this unit Study is very affordable. You do need to buy the books, or check them out at a library. Since this is a literature-based unit study it can be used for spelling, science, and math as well. We used The Owl Pellet experiment as a science project. Spelling, we simply used some of the words listed in the Primer. As for math, since we got the cookbook, we used the different types of measurements for that.

If you have never used a unit study, this one is very easy to use. Please make sure that you have everything you need before you begin this Primer. My daughter and I did love this study. We did not get done with it this year; we took our time with two hours a week on it. We will finish it this school year and cannot wait to see what is next.
