Discovery Toys is a direct sales company where consultants sell products through parties, fundraisers, and such. You generally can't find these items elsewhere, and they may be more expensive. Our experience has shown they are worth the price.

We started homeschooling when our oldest was only 2 years old. His cousin was entering pre-pre-kindergarten or some sort of program, and I didn't feel he was ready to be sent off to school. We started focusing on things at home instead, including purchasing a handful of Discovery Toys. I remember being so impressed with the catalog when it first arrived for being the first toy advertisements I'd seen to show not only a racially diverse set of models, but also showing children with special needs. Items are labeled according to the skills they focus on and ages of children who will most benefit.

I have purchased Discovery Toys a handful of times now, and it hasn't been an issue of being at a party and feeling guilty. I've purchased these items online and can think of only two that we didn't enjoy. Both were board games. One was very poorly made and the other was just too complicated. I don't know if that's really a trend though or just two bunk items.

We're hands-on learners so things like Marbleworks were perfect for our family. So were many of the infant and toddler toys meant for stuffing and stacking. Though great investments, I'm not sure this is a company that can meet your needs through the years. Most of their items seem geared toward younger learners. That said, we have a variety of toys from when our children were small that we still have today or that we've passed on to friends with younger children.

In my opinion, Discovery Toys are almost always worth the money you pay. Combined with party purchases, or purchased during an online sale, you can get some great deals.

I love Discovery Toys. I used to sell them, years ago, and I am still a satisfied customer.

The toys are generally well made and high quality. They come with a lifetime guarantee, so if it breaks, the company will replace it. I also like them because they are not based on the latest TV character.

Many of the toys are well thought out and useful for more than one age. The Measure Up! Cups, my personal favorite item, can be used from toddlerhood through elementary math. They are graduated cups numbered from 1-12 that nest and stack. The cups have been engineered so that the #2 cup and the #3 cup will exactly fill the #5 cup (2+3=5). This attention to detail is apparent throughout the products available in the catalog.

Their core line of toys generally have many features, and different uses are detailed in an informative booklet or insert.

The toys are also very specifically non-violent. There are no cars designed to crash into each other, no punching bags, and no swords or guns. Most toys are open-ended and child powered. The toy doesn’t entertain the child; the child uses his imagination to create his own entertainment using the toy.

I have had several of our toys for years, and they are still going strong after being handed down through seven children. Hammer Away! Boat, Marbleworks, and Measure Up! Cups are our favorites.

The toys are sold through catalogs and at parties, and are available through consultants. If you need a replacement, you will have to deal with your local representative instead of the company directly. Many stay-at-home moms supplement their income selling Discovery Toys products, and buying them can help support local families.

Shipping costs add quite a bit to the toys, making them more expensive than they seem at first glance. Many of the games and books are available at a better price at local stores, and there is no shipping charge. Replacement parts for most items are available (so if you lose a ball, you can order just a ball instead of needing to replace the whole toy).
